Jane bakes bread onsite daily using local stone-ground organic flour from Yorkshire Millers in Spaunton (about 2 miles away from the Bakery). The bread is made in the traditional manner, using only flour, fresh yeast, water, sea salt and a splash of olive oil. After an hour of slow rising it is shaped into tins, rolls or demi-baguettes and risen for about another hour before baking in a stone floored oven. The result is a well flavoured loaf with an open texture and thin crust, ideal for sandwiches or toast. Currently available as Farmhouse White, Wholemeal or Seeded Brown, and occasionally in more exotic flavours.

Jane’s sourdough bread is very popular, being a rustic cob with deep slashes and a thick golden crust thanks to a brief steam at the start of a very hot bake. The flavour is complex and the texture chewy and satisfying. Perfect as cheese on toast or topped with paté.

Jane also bakes teacakes, scones and cakes, which are available by the slice from the bakery counter or from the café. Whole cakes, celebration cakes, or larger quantities of scones or rolls can be ordered by phone.
